AMARA & FRIENDS
early readers
welcome!

Amara & Friends aligns closely with the development framework as identified for the NSW Department of Education, and has worked closely with educators, parents and guardians to ensure that the world correlates with the defined educational outcomes of children in early reading stages.

What is the purpose of early reading?
Being an early reader means that prior to entering school, students are able to bring knowledge, understanding and awareness of skills found at home and in some out-of-home settings (such as preschool). This stage of learning is formulated to lay foundational avenues for future learning and exploration.

What are the desired outcomes for early readers?
As set out of by The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia there are core outcomes paramount to the success of children in this age-group. These outcomes shape the lessons and teachings of staff, and are great indicators of what at-home activities should aspire to teach and explore:

1. Children have a strong sense of identity.
2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
4. Children are confident and involved learners.
5. Children are effective communicators.
how can reading help achieve these outcomes?

Whilst these readers are young, they fully appreciate the complexity of reading as a mode of communication. In this early stage, children are expected to respond to a range of textual modes from contexts both familiar and imaginative - in doing so, they're encouraged to ask questions, engage with other students and grasp key ideas. By reading, students grow in understanding and awareness of the nature of the written language and are tasked to engage in writing utilising personal experience, drawing and performance.

Amara & Friends incorporates complexity into each facet of the story with devices such as symbolism, metaphors, personal experience, drawing, character design and expression all having significant roles in allowing children to probe and consider why certain behaviours occur, are reacted to and the consequence.
